National Naval Officers Association | NNOA

The Washington, D.C. Chapter of the National Naval Officers Association (DCNNOA) is committed to improving its members, our youth, the community, and America's Sea Services--U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Coast Guard.  NNOA's DC Chapter works with numerous schools and associations such as BDPA-DC  in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area to provide role models to address job and career opportunities in the Sea Services and to enhance the education of local youth.

Each year, the Chapter awards scholarships to minority youth from the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area who have demonstrated academic achievement, financial need, and positive involvement in their community.  Scholarship recipients attend the college or university of their choice without any obligation to join or affiliate with the military, unless stipulated by the scholarship sponsor (i.e. NROTC) or indicated within the requirements form for a specific scholarship.

All scholarships will be awarded to a graduating minority senior from one of the high schools in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area that has demonstrated academic achievement, financial need, and positive involvement in their community.  This scholarship is designed to support the awardee during their freshman year of college.  The awardee will be notified on 12 April 2010.  The awardee is expected to attend a scholarship awards banquet in their honor on Saturday, April 24, 2010 starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Catering and Conference Center located on the Historic Washington Navy Yard in Southeast Washington, DC.

The purpose of the banquet is to introduce and honor both academic and community achievements of DCNNOA's 2010 scholarship recipients.  To claim the award, the awardee must enroll full-time at a two or four-year accredited college or university.  Verification of enrollment must be submitted to DCNNOA on or before August 31, 2010.
