The June 17th BDPA Orlando program meeting will focus on Social Media and the Law: Intellectual Property, Privacy, Free Speech. We will have law professors from Barry University Law School (, FAMU Law School ( and Human Resource professionals.

We will be discussing social media from a Legal and HR framework given the number of cases before the court and issues that have come up in the news that have affected one's employment b/c what was posted on their Facebook act, Twitter or You Tube.

Facebook alone has over 400 million users on its social network. There are millions of users of mobile devices that are constantly posting status updates on any of the major social networks.

What you should know about current state and Federal law with respect to Intellectual property/copyright? What you need to be aware of.

Privacy Rights? What are they? Where does your right to privacy begin and end? Is there a right to privacy in a digital media world?

The 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution gives one the right to "freedom of speech", however there are constraints given the recent cases before the court
regarding postings made on Twitter.

1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The purpose and goal is inform our audience members (students, professionals and small business owners) about possible legal ramifications and impact on current and future employment as it relates to ones use of social media.
