Sempra Energy Foundation

The Sempra Energy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) private foundation based in San Diego, California, USA. The foundation was founded by Sempra Energy, a Fortune 250 energy services company that serves the largest customer base of any energy utility in the United States. With 13,800 employees worldwide, the Sempra Energy companies develop energy infrastructure, operate utilities, and provide related products and services to more than 29 million consumers worldwide.

Sempra Energy Foundation supports educational programs that help educate children and communities in the following areas:
  1. Environment
  2. Math and science
  3. Technology
The Sempra Energy Foundation uses a four-step process to evaluate applications and award grants. The process may take between four to six weeks, so please keep that in mind when submitting your proposal. In 2010, the Sempra Energy Foundation will accept applications from April through October.

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) partnered with BDPA Los Angeles to submit an online letter of inquiry to Sempra Energy Foundation. We are asking for permission to submit a full-fledged grant proposal to fund the chapter's Student IT Education & Scholarship ( SITES ) program.

We are working closely with Angela White-Parker (shown in photo) on this funding effort. Angela is a past president of our BDPA chapter in Los Angeles. She is also a member of the Sempra Energy team. She recently wrote, " I work for a great company !"

We've rec'd informal notice that Sempra Energy Foundation will award us $5,000 grant in support of the Student IT Education & Scholarship (SITES) program hosted by our BDPA Los Angeles chapter!

We'll make a formal announcement as soon as we receive written notice from the Sempra folks. In the meantime, congrats to BDPA Los Angeles chapter president John Malonson and past president Angela White-Parker for working with BETF to get this funding!

We are very happy to report that BDPA Education and Technology Foundation ( BETF ) received a $5,000 grant award from the Southern California Gas Company, a subsidiary of Sempra Energy .

This grant award was a direct result of the letter of inquiry that BETF and BDPA Los Angeles chapter jointly sent a few weeks ago.

Dear Mr. Hicks:

On behalf of The Gas Company , I'm pleased to enclose a check in the amount of $5,000 in support of the Los Angeles SITES Program which through science and technology will stimulate the interest of young people who come from historically disadvantaged communities. The Gas Company is proud to participate in this program!

BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) teamed up with BDPA Los Angeles chapter to submit a grant proposal to the Sempra Energy Foundation. We are pleased to report that our grant proposal was approved and a $5,000 check has been received in support of the BDPA programs and services offered in Southern California.

BDPA Los Angeles chapter president John Malonson and the chapter's BETF liaison David Malonson have been a pleasure to work with over the past weeks and months. They aggressively seek out funding opportunities in concert with BETF and as such it is a pleasure to be able to report on this 'success story' in their fundraising efforts.

We recently learned that our $2,500 grant proposal made to the Southern California Gas Company, subsidiary of Sempra Energy, has been approved. The proposal was submitted jointly by BDPA Education and Technology Foundation (BETF) and BDPA Los Angeles chapter president David Malonson.

The approval letter partially read:
