Confirmed Guests: April 8, 2014

BETF is pleased to announce that Michael Tyson, BDPA Mobile Application Showcase program manager will be our guest on the April 22 episode of BDPA iRadio Show.

Michael Tyson is the program manager for the 1st annual BDPA Mobile Application Showcase sponsored by State Farm. This showcase allows student application developers a chance to showcase their talent. The applications being showcased will represent three different application categories (i.e. business, personal productivity, and gaming). Each category will have stringent requirements to be met in advance to the showcase.

College and high school students have the opportunity to participate in this day long event in conjunction with the 2014 National BDPA Technology Conference held in Indianapolis, IN. The focus of this event includes development on the Android smartphone operating systems. Our BDPA iRadio Show audience will have a chance to learn more about this youth education program ... and hopefully help us identify additional students who want to participate in the pilot!

36th annual National BDPA Technology Conference is fast approaching.   BETF wants to begin to preview some of the remarkable workshop presenters who have agreed to share their expertise with conference attendees.  As such, we are very happy to announce that Detrick DeBurr, co-founder of Cupid on the Go, will be our guest on the April 8th episode of the BDPA iRadio Show.

Detrick is also the author of Build Gamified Websites with PHP and jQuery. Detrick is making a presentation at the 2014 BDPA Technology Conference on the topic, 'Gamification: Building Fun Into Your Applications'. A few years ago if you said the word 'Gamification' to someone, you would have gotten a weird look as though you were concocting something new. You would have gotten a quick follow up question. 'Huh? What is that?' Today that encounter would be very different. Although very misunderstood, Businesses are taking gamification very seriously as they find it more and more difficult to engage and ultimately retain customers.

In this presentation, Detrick takes a closer look at Gamification. We assume you know nothing about gamification. We walk through the Gamification Design Framework with practical application.  One such application is Game Time Giving, a mobile platform that gives fans at sporting events a way to compete with each other real-time while supporting a worthy cause.

Detrick will preview his workshop presentation with our BDPA iRadio Show audience.

This year BDPA celebrates the 5th anniversary of the 2009 National High School Computer Competition (HSCC) championships held in Raleigh, NC.   The HSCC championship team that year was trained by BDPA Southern Minnesota ... and one of the students on that team was Adwait Walimbe.   BETF is proud to announce that Adwait will be our guest on the April 8th episode of the BDPA iRadio Show!

Adwait earned the Eli Lilly Scholarship for BDPA Students and the Jesse Bemley Scholarship as a result of his efforts within BDPA. These scholarships helped him finance his college education at the University of Minnesota.

While in college Adwait served as an officer for our BDPA Southern Minnesota chapter. Also, he is a past participant in the BDPA IT Showcase and he learned of career opportunities offered for technology professionals by Wal-Mart while attending a BDPA career fair. Adwait is now a 'big data' strategy leader for the worldwide retailer. Adwait is the embodiment of the BDPA tagline, 'classroom to the boardroom'.
